History of Airwell

Since its foundation in 1947, the Airwell Group has been known for its high reliability in the air conditioning industry.

In 1947 Paul Wallet founded the company L'Air Conditionné Entreprise (ACE) near Paris and, with the brand Airwell, laid the first foundation for what was to become the Airwell Group. ACE was the first European manufacturer of air conditioners with direct evaporation, and by the 1950s it was producing air conditioning systems for both commercial and private use. The company grew rapidly and a large expansion took place in the 1990s. Today the Airwell Group is one of the leading global suppliers of air conditioning systems with a presence in over 80 countries worldwide.

Paul Wallet founded "L'Air Conditionné Entreprise" which later became the core of Airwell Group. The Company developed and began the mass production of the first window unit, to offer exceptional climate conditions, mainly dedicated to European and African markets. AIRWELL developed a split system unit by splitting its core window unit in two parts, and was the first to produce wall split systems in Europe. AIRWELL entered the commercial and industrial markets with large cooling capacity for packaged air and watercooled systems. After the two oil crises in the 70s AIRWELL developed the first high-efficiency air to water heat pump to be connected to existing oil boilers in residential housing for oil energy saving. AIRWELL designed and produced the first European wall split system range including electronic remote control, a high technology crossflow fan for low noise levels, and rotary compressors. The Group grew with the acquisition of Spanish, Italian, German and French distribution companies, as well as the factory in Tillieres. The Group strengthened its position by acquiring production facilities in China, France (Wesper) and Italy, and extended its distribution network in Argentina and Turkey. In order to accentuate its position in the market, the Group acquired Polenz Klimatechnik in Germany. The Group reinforced its position in the American continent by acquiring the Fedders Residential Business (USA) and opening a new assembly line in Tierra del Fuego (Argentina).
